When the word of God was lived out in Ephesus it impacted the church in a great way.
Luke wrote in Acts 19:17,
“When [it] became known to the Jews and Greeks living in Ephesus, they were all seized with fear, and the name of the Lord Jesus was held in high honor.” (NIV84)
Let me be honest with you: In the church today in the United States, Lord Jesus is not held in high honor. Jesus is his name as savior of his people. His proper name is Emmanuel, God with us. He is our creator that spoke this world into being. He is the God that sacrificed his blood for the forgiveness of the sins of all humanity. Most citizens that attend church believe he is a good guy, a son of God, and a fantastic teacher; they are functional atheists.
The reason the Ephesian Christians held Jesus in high extreme is he changed their lives and they were born-again, new beings that burned their past behind them. Yes, they were sinners saved by Grace; that no longer defined them; they (and we) are now Saints, justified, forgiven, sanctified and full of the Holy Spirit ready and able to be gifted by the Holy Spirit to do the impossible.
