Unity

In a show of John 17 unity, Christians came together in
Sutherland Springs, Texas

The Sunday morning mass murder at The First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs,Texas, left 26 dead, and as many wounded. This brought thousands physically, or on social networks, to pray with, or put their arms about and with the survivors.

Jesus superseded the Old Testament command to love your neighbor as yourself with love your neighbor as Christ loved them. Paul tells us we are to mourn with those that mourn. The pure gospel is without divisive names. Suddenly it was no longer Baptists that were shot, but Christians. Just as suddenly it was no longer Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Methodists, church of Christ praying for the families, but Christians.

This is what Jesus had in mind that night in the bloody, sweat-soaked prayer recorded in John 17. This is what Paul had in mind as he ascribed 1 Corinthians 1. When we honor and follow the pure Petrine and Pauline gospel, we work diligently to bring together Christians in obedience to John 17.
